Not My Digital Tablet....Yet!

For a good while now, I have been stagnate in a crossroad of sorts trying to figure out in what direction I wanted my art to go.  Did I want to continue painting more acrylic on canvas?  Did I want to continue sketching?  Did I want to enhance my creativity and explore other mediums such as oil painting or watercolors?  All these questions tormented my mind giving the road an unfocused glare.

Then about two weeks or so ago, while cruisin' around the blogosphere, I stopped to visit Angie over at  Lariats and Lavender.  Coincidentally, she had a post that caught my eye titled Reconnecting with an Old Hobby and it just so happens that in this post she talks about how she was an artist as a little girl and she went on to mention how she was gifted a digital tablet by her loved ones.  She even demonstrated a few drawings she had drawn on the tablet which I thought were amazing.  If you have a moment you should really check them out, they are adorable.

Immediately, my curiosity was peaked and I asked her a few questions which she so kindly answered promptly.  I have heard the term digital tablet before, but that was the extent of my knowledge on them.

My questions:
Is it a good resource for drawing/artwork?  How can I learn to use one?  What do I look for if interested in purchasing one? and Is digital drawing your preference over traditional?

Angie's Answers:
"A digital tablet is basically an electronic tablet that connects to your computer or laptop via USB. You have a special stylus pen which is used on the tablet. As you draw, your drawing is instantly on the computer program you're using. It's wild! Some - very expensive - tablets let you draw right on them and than upload."
"Learning to use one isn't as hard as you think. I hold mine on my lap (whereas most people put them on their desk) and you just draw as if you would on paper. Since you're watching the screen instead of the tablet, you may make a mistake or two but that's where the undo button is a life saver!"
"If you wanna purchase your own tablet, you can look on Amazon.com, or BestBuy.com or even Target (some have them!) I recommend a Bamboo Fun or a Bamboo Touch for a beginner, because they are only around $60.00 - $90.00"
"I love sketching, because it's soothing and something I can do anywhere - outside, in the car, etc. but I would say I prefer digital."
If you have any more q's, let me know! :D

As you can very well see, Angie provided me with more information than what I expected.  Thanks again Angie!  I was able to do some further research, on Google, with the information provided and had a pretty good idea at the end of which tablet I wanted to go get.  The morning of purchase went by so smoothly that even though I gave the right of way to the car you see behind me, the driver so kindly insisted to wait while my picture was taken.
Taking my budget into consideration, it came down between the Bamboo Splash at $79.99 which consisted of only a drawing pen and the Bamboo Capture at $99.99 which consisted of both drawing pen and touch.  Below are more details on the two tablets.  There really was no major difference between the Bamboo Capture and the Bamboo Create other than the additional $100.00 difference.
Which Tablet ended up coming home with me?  The Bamboo Capture!  So far everything was working out smoothly.  I was excited to get on with my drawing!  So I went home and opened the box ready to do some drawing, but it wasn't as easy as that.  I had to follow the instructions carefully, then download two disc software that came with the tablet and then some more reading and my patient grew thin.  If you knew me, you'd know that I am a visual person.  I like to learn by applying hands on method with some reading but, not reading and reading and reading.  I mean I love to read, just not technical reading.

So I put the tablet aside because by the time it was ready for drawing, I was so frustrated and confused, I needed a break.
So, instead I did a quick drawing on paper....Not My Digital Tablet....yet!
I find drawing therapeutically peaceful. And although I think I will remain with the traditional method of drawing, I do have to admit I am both excited and looking forward to exploring my new digital table.  I can't wait to discover new and exhilarating creative ideas.  If any of you are already experts or have any advice and/or suggestion on digital drawing, I would greatly appreciate the feedback.

If I Were A....

I welcomed in Saturday morning not having gone to sleep at all since I awoke Friday morning.  No, I was not out partying all night nor did I host a party at home.  Well, my temporary home.  My home for the moment while I embrace my new life her back home in South Florida.  It's been a little over a month since I left my cozy, comfortable home and financially secure life in Kansas.  But really when you think of it, nothing is really secure.  Life has taught me that.

Hola Readers!  It's 5:30 in the morning in my little corner of the world and I can't sleep.  So I made my way down the dark staircase to the kitchen and made my way back up with a cup of hot blueberry tea and 3 melba toast with peanut butter in my hands.  I have no glue as to why I can't find slumber; all I know is that I am not tired.  The Yogi tea brand I drink comes with little inspiring messages attached at the string.  This morning's tea bag read "Appreciate yourself and honor your soul" which is lovely considering I'm a firm believer of honoring the soul...just take a look at my blog tagline.

Anyway, I turned on my laptop, put on my earphone to the melodies of Quietude an array of easy listening instrumental piano melodies sure to inspire.  I browse my blog list and the first title I read was If I Were A by Rima of Bolu by Rima and I was inspired to write my own.

If I were a gemstone, I'd be an Emerald.
If I were a scent, I'd be white gardenias.
If I were a pair of shoes, I be a pair of 5 inch Stilettos.
If I were the weather, I'd be cool breezes dancing through palm trees.
If I were a facial expression, I'd be a big laughing smile.
If I were a car, I'd be a 1970 convertible Shelby Mustang.
If I were a time of day, I'd be whatever time the sunrise peeks.
If I were a month, I'd be May.
If I were a place, I'd be cozy white cottage surrounded by white gardenia bushes.
If I were liquid, I'd be any hot tea.
If I were a taste, I'd be a sweet and spicy.
If I were a sea animal, I'd be a starfish.
If I were a a food, I'd be buttered toasted Cuban bread.
If I were a color, I'd be green.
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a set of Saxophone.
If I were a flower, I'd be a gardenia.
If I were a planet, I'd be Earth.
If I were an object, I'd be journal.
If I were a fruit, I'd be passion fruit.
If I were a sound, I'd be silence.
If I were a day of the week, I'd be Sunday.

Please feel free to write your own.  I'm curious to read yours!

Dear God:  I am always thankful for another day!  Thank you for loving me as I am!

Dear Treasure1:  I know it has been a trying week for you, but I must say you have proven to have spiritually grown.  I am proud of you! Siempre! Always!

Dear Treasure2:   Gosh I miss you so much!  When are you coming home?

Dear Treasure3:   It must be overwhelming to feel pulled in every direction. Just know that it's okay to say no and put yourself first.

Dear exciting writing job:  Please come already!

Dear Digital Tablet:  I know I put you back in the box, but you frustrated me!  I promise to take you back out and give you another try.  I really do want to get to know you so we can make beautiful art together!

Dear Brenden aka Chumpi:  You are my little man!  You don't fool me...you are a genius!

Dear Bridget aka Chiquitica:  I love it when every morning you come to my bedside after brushing your little teeth to ask me to smell your mouth!  Keep up the good work!  Abuelita is proud of you!

25 Things Fat People Shouldn't Do: Wear Animal Print

"25 Things Fat People Shouldn't Do is an unabashed middle finger to the preposterous idea that any human who weighs more than the status quo does not deserve to live a full and well rounded (ahem) life. The list of 25 is composed word for word from direct lists of sheer assholery found on the internet. These range from the absurd to the profoundly shameful, and I will be disproving this offensive notion with style. Feel free to join in on the fun, and if you do, link at the bottom so I can share. May the Chub Club live long and prosper!"  ~Jes of The Militant Baker.

Naturally, being of a curious and strong-willed nature, I decided to Strut My Walk like only I can!

"The beauty of life is to experience yourself!"
I love wearing animal print!
It tends to entice the "roar" in me!
Ggggrrrrl!

Just Chillin' in My Hot Pink Poncho 'Round the Hot Pink Flower Bush!

I remember loving ponchos as a little girl.  I even remember how happy I got when my Mother brought home a yellow one especially for me.  It was a bright deep yellow one with holes in the front for you to place your hand through to eat, play and wave hello or good-bye.  When I think of ponchos, I think of warmth and comfort.  So when I went thrifting and found this gorgeous hot pink one hanging in the clothes rails, I knew it was meant for me.  It was hot pink for godsakes; with my name written all over it.  There was no way I was leaving it there for somebody else to treasure when clearly it was meant for me.
I loved the bright hot pink flower bush adorning around my former cozy little Kansas apartment.
I'm really going to miss the cool Midwestern fall afternoons.  I am not, however, going to miss the cold winter snowed-in mornings, afternoons and nights!  I am happy to be in old
sunny South Florida for the winter season!
I was probably admiring the clear blue sky or perhaps just posing pretty for the picture ;)
There's only so much laziness I can endure before the natural silliness in me emerges.  I just start jumping or spinning around with the breeze or start singing or dancing.  I'm cool like that.
I embrace and enjoy laughter!
